2650 New Residential Units

The Urgent Need

Recent Ministry of Absorption and Ministry of Housing figures indicate that there are in excess of 27,000 senior citizens waiting for a suitable housing solution. While real estate prices in the world have dropped, the cost of housing in Israel has risen sharply making it impossible for senior citizens to purchase property or to rent one.

Many who do not live in Amigour housing facilities are living below the poverty line and often under deleterious conditions. Some live in depressed neighborhoods, some live together in crowded conditions in small apartments or, in the worst case, are homeless.

The Jewish Agency Senior Social Housing Initiative is a well-planned program to address the housing crisis for senior citizens in Israel, carried out with the support of the Government of Israel.

2650 new residential units will be constructed on 17 sites in 9 cities across Israel. These units will be small apartments, and will provide high-quality living space for senior adults.

New development on under-utilized land and the addition of floors on existing complexes will allow The Jewish Agency and its partners to act quickly to build more affordable homes.
