Mr. Semion Rosenfeld, aged 91, resides at Amigour’s Tel-Aviv Sheltered Housing facility . Semion is one of two remaining Holocaust survivors living in Israel who took part in the Sobibor Concentration Camp uprising. He arrived at the camp together with a group of Jewish soldiers from the Red Army, after he was taken captive together with his commander Alexander Pechersky, who led the uprising.
Around a year ago, at Semion's request, a monument in honor of Pechersky, the leader of the uprising was unveiled at Amigour’s Tel-Avi Sheltered Housing facility. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the uprising.
On October 9th in cooperation with the Lochamei HaGitaot Museum, Amigour held a ceremony to commemorate the uprising that was attended by Semion, 200 Amigour residents, government ministers and various VIPs.
Amigour also brought Natalia Ladichenko, Pechersky's granddaughter from Rosotv to participate in the ceremony.
Natalia brought with her a shirt that her grandfather, Alexander Pechersky, received from a woman named Luka who helped him plan the uprising, and who asked him to wear the shirt for protection during the uprising.
This shirt will be entrusted to the Lochamei HaGitaot Museum for safekeeping.
Amigour is not just a building, but a true home for 7500 residents who each have a personal story to tell.
