Recently, Amigour was informed about a Holocaust survivor who lives on Kibbutz Bahan and who celebrated her 100th birthday in September 2013.
Mrs. Shuval lives in the heart of an area that is undergoing extensive infrastructure renovations. On account of the kibbutz’s financial difficulties the building contractor abandoned the site and her home has been left completely inaccessible, so that she is unable to leave her house in a wheelchair.
In effect this holocaust survivor has been sentenced to an absolute state of siege as she has not left her home for several months. Luckily her doctor has agreed to go to make house calls and her remaining needs are provided by her granddaughter and the woman who takes care of her. But she has no way of leaving the house.
The matter was brought to the attention of Amigour Director Mr. Yuval Frankal through the Organization for the Welfare Holocaust Survivors with a request for assistance, though Amigour and its management are not connected in any way to the matter at hand.
A day after it received this notification Director Frankal and a staff of engineers arrived at the site and in a matter of days a new asphalt path was paved on the site, enabling the old woman to be wheeled out of her home and renew her contact with her surroundings and the outside world.
After her 100th birthday celebration with her granddaughter and friends she was taken out for a day trip in the area for the first time in long months.
The entire operation was carried out by Amigour on a full voluntary basis by recruiting the engineering teams and the contractors that work for the organization.
This voluntary act was another contribution by Amigour for the enhancement of the welfare and quality of life of Holocaust survivors in Israel.
