The elderly residents of the Amigour sheltered housing facilities in the south rushed to the bomb shelters when the sirens wailed during Operation Pillar of Cloud this past November 2012.
Many of them are Holocaust survivors who still remember the feeling of fear and being in danger.
Amigour’s staff did everything possible to keep a calm atmosphere inside the bomb shelter. The residents socialized, played games and passed the time together.
Liz, a Holocaust survivor, trembled with fear during the Hamas rocket attacks on southern Israel. “Ever since I was a little girl,” Liz recalled, “I have been very scared. I remember the ghetto clearly ( Mogilev-Podolski ghetto in the Ukraine )…what has happened over the past weeks has been terrible for me.”
Due to Amigour’s years of experience renovating and maintaining buildings, the Israeli Government contracted Amigour to build and upgrade bomb shelters throughout Israel and to repair buildings that were damaged when the rockets hit during Operation Pillar of Cloud.
